How to make a business plan for a restaurant

A business plan is necessary to achieve the goal you have declared. That is, to open an establishment (restaurant, cafe, coffee shop, bakery, pub, etc.).

The business plan includes:

  • the stages of the long journey,
  • risk map,
  • customer acquisition strategy,
  • marketing research,
  • financial model of the business,
  • description of the staff to be involved,
  • requirements for the location of the premises,
  • schedules for attracting resources – money, time, experts, employees, and contractors.
  • It also answers the question: How long will the investment take to return?

If you have worked on such data, it will be easy for you to navigate the tasks to be performed on the startup. You will also likely have fewer unplanned tasks and expenses. A well-designed business plan will help you communicate with investors and attract resources.

How to develop such a plan?

  1. Describe the requirements for the premises and calculate the costs of construction, equipment, inventory, furniture, and software.
  2. Describe market research and the concept of the establishment. Indicate which categories of potential customers are likely to come to the establishment.
  3. Describe the marketing strategy for attracting the target audience. How the profit of the institution will be filled.
  4. Develop an organizational structure of the institution’s staff. The number of employees and their functionality. Those responsible for individual business structures.
  5. Create a financial model of the institution. In which you describe the income from 3 groups of the target audience, the cost of production and fixed costs. Describe the model in 3 variants – pessimistic, optimal and optimistic.
  6. Develop a roadmap that will indicate the stages of the project (construction, repair, purchase of equipment, recruitment, paperwork, menu development, test launch)
  7. Calculate how long it will take to return the investment with 3 income options.
  8. Create a risk map – probable development scenarios and the degree of harmfulness. Develop preventive measures that will help to avoid or reduce the harm from these scenarios.
  9. Create a schedule for attracting resources. Based on the roadmap, make a schedule of when you will need to raise funds, experts, and employees.
