How to find a star employee?

The importance of a strong team in the restaurant business

One of the most important tasks in the restaurant business is to assemble and train a team to work well. Service and production rest on the shoulders of specialists. If you have people you can rely on, you’re halfway there. But how do you find those who are ready and willing to perform tasks in your institution?

We offer a systematic approach. People make mistakes and it’s normal, but a system is needed to correct these mistakes and make the work better and raise the level of the specialist.

Finding the right staff is also the job of recruitment specialists – recruiters and HR managers.

Systematic approach to search and selection of personnel

First, in order to start the search, you need to make a portrait of an employee for a specific vacancy, which includes:

  • Gender, age, education
  • Work experience
  • Abilities
  • Interests and values
  • Purpose of the program profile: – works on the result or on the process – team player or loner – takes responsibility – follows instructions or not – internal or external reference – active or passive

Based on the employee’s portrait, you create a job offer that is interesting to that person and matches their values and interests, which will help you weed out those who are not needed or capable.

The second stage is the interview. You already have a portrait and an advertisement. When the advertisement fulfills its function of sifting out unnecessary candidates, those with whom you need to work appear, that is, conduct a thorough interview and find out how well they match your portrait. Usually, a candidate can be considered for a vacancy if the portrait matches by 80%. The weight of the criteria is decided by the employer, i.e. what is more important in the portrait and how to take into account the percentage of matching.

The third stage is the probationary period. You take the candidate for a trial period and give him or her tasks, then see how he or she performs them and whether they suit you. Afterwards, you make a hiring decision.

Development and organizational structure

The right candidate is like a jigsaw puzzle, if he or she fits (like an employee’s portrait), he or she fits into the overall picture and there are no additional questions. Then you just improve their skills through training.

This is an example for one employee, but if you want to build the entire staff structure, you need to work on responsibilities, powers, instructions, and organizational structure. Develop and use it. This saves money, energy, and time.

We also develop a restaurant business structure and implement it in future or existing projects.
